Day 3

Today was the first day we got to go out and do mission work. We were separated into five groups between the adult sponsors. I am in Joel’s group and we went to our first station with Kyle’s group. Our first assignment was to help with the VBS at the church we are staying at. It was a ton of fun getting to help tell the story of creation to our group of kids and play a water game with them. We also got to sing the song of the day with them and Erin, Ashton, Andrew, Carson, Joel and I were jamming out with the kids in our group. During craft time, we especially talked to this 10 year old boy named Jackson. He was really smart and we played a game of twenty questions with him.

After lunch our groups went to work with Deep Well. The representative took us to this house that was owned by a handicapped lady. We did a lot of yard work like sweeping the giant deck, trimming hedges, and raking/bagging a lot of leaves. To start Kyle cleaned out the gutters and Joel used the ladder to get branches of the roof after. While he was on the roof, Joel was going under a branch that happened to have a spider web attached to it. We learned the he has a strong case of arachnophobia when he screamed and slid as fast as possible away from the web. Another sad run in with bugs was when Erin and I were trying to rake leaves from under the porch and we woke up a swarm of wasps. We didn’t realize until Erin got stung and screamed right in my ear.

The schedule allotted for free time rom 4-6 pm and since we had not gotten to go to the beach yet my group decided to go there for a couple hours. This was my first experience at a beach so it was a lot of fun for me. The church has wave boards that they let us borrow and Joel taught a couple of us how to use them. Later that night, after dinner we had a few more hours of free time and whole youth group went to the beach to night swim and see the turtles that are currently laying eggs. It was a lot of fun to wave jump and see the sunset over the beach with the whole group.
