Today was another 9 hours of driving from Nashville to Hilton Head. To start we went over to eat bagels from Panera that Kyle and Joel graciously ordered for us. This leg of the driving was even quieter than the first near the beginning. Everyone was pretty tired and wanted to get a little more sleep at least. We later watched Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, which we voted out yesterday, and A Series of Unfortunate Events. These together killed a couple of hours throughout the trip.
By lunchtime we were in Atlanta, GA, so we took orders to from KFC. Most of us stayed in the van as a few helpers went in to bring us the food as it was made. To pass the time during this endeavor we sang along to many songs from all different genres and ages that played from Brendan's speaker.
As the travels continued the kids got a few more mileage bags. Those contained a package of goldfish, a scavenger hunt, and a few pieces of candy (for me those were strawberry nerds and starbursts). For me this trip would be the first time that I have ever seen or been in any ocean. So when I first saw the little glimpse of the Atlantic as we crossed the bridge onto the island, I was ecstatic.
When we finally arrived at the island, Kip and Cindy were waiting for us at the door. The church we are staying at is on a very large piece of property with multiple buildings and even three sand volleyball courts. They had dinner waiting for us (pizza and an assorted fruit tray), and then we loaded our things into our rooms as the adults left for a meeting about the work we will be doing throughout the week. Their meeting ran pretty long so a lot of us went outside and played either basketball or volleyball. It was a lot of fun to finally see the amazing island (and palm trees) and to learn more about the missions work we will be doing this week.
