Through this project I learned how to turn a picture into a painting with Photoshop. I first followed the tutorial to mix colors and use the brush. It also taught me how to change the settings in order to make a custom brush, in this case to use for a landscape picture. To pick a base color I pressed the option key and selected the color from the image. I then painted the first layers with my brush set to Dry paint. In order top mix colors, I chose a second color and set the brush to the Very Wet, Heavy Mix setting. I then painted over the section and mixed to two colors together.

I then used the less detailed tutorial to turn a landscape into this painting with the custom brush I made before. It taught me how to put lighter colors on the highlights and darker colors on the shadows and then mix them effectively. It was a cool tutorial and I wanted to try it on one of my own pictures.

So I did. I took this picture during a trip to the Arboretum this summer. It was a decorated tire that was hanging on the wall of an older building. I used the techniques I learned from the tutorials to turn the image into a painting. I think next time I will use a different picture because I think that it is hard to tell that it is a painting or that it is a tire. But I am happy the way it turned out none-the-less.
